Passage: Genesis 32:22-32
In Genesis 32, Jacob wrestles with a mysterious man until the break of dawn. Who was Jacob wrestling with? Was it an angel or the pre-incarnate Christ? If the later is true, then why would Jacob prevail over him. Jacob has been on a journey where God confronts him with himself. This is true for each of us who are the true children of Israel. Character flaws and patterns are not easily changed. Jacob's wrestling was real and physical, but wrestling is a good metaphor for the journey and confrontation that God intends for each of us as he changes us into followers who are more Christ-like. We are blood-bought, broken-down, and grace filled through this process. In the end we may walk with a limp, but we know our Sovereign better!
