Juxtaposed Disciples

August 16, 2020 | Mike Avato

Passage: John 12:1-11

There is hardly a greater contrast in the treatment of Jesus than what we see on display in John 12:1-11!  On the one hand, you have a disciple humbly prostrating herself before Jesus while extravagantly pouring out an expensive ointment on him to show her adoring love and grateful heart. On the other hand, you see a complaint from another disciple because he greedily would rather have the value of that ointment available for his own use! Isn’t it true that disciples come in all shapes and sizes, but not every disciple is the real deal.  What do these Juxtaposed Disciples teach us?  They teach us It is beautiful when Genuine disciples show the worth of Jesus in their affection toward JesusThey also teach us...It is a reckless (suicidal) thing when a “so-called” disciple’s affections do not attempt to reflect Jesus’s worth.
